7th Annual Scare Away Hunger 5k Run/Walk

Neighborhood House Invites Runners to “Scare Away Hunger”

Neighborhood House’s 7th Annual Scare Away Hunger 5k Run/Walk is set to take place on October 22 at 3:00p.m. Registration is $25 per person and $20 per student. Participants who register as a family or a group also receive the $20 per person rate. The race begins at Rochester College, the presenting sponsor of the event. The route will be a beautiful, colorful autumn run/walk featuring a loop around Rochester College, through the new Lake Norcentra Park, out to the Clinton River Trail with the destination of a beautiful, scenic loop that will head back to campus and the finish line. Family activities will continue until 5:00 p.m. “We have runners who compete in this chip-timed race, as well as families who walk the trail with strollers and walkers,” said Sally Anglim, Scare Away Hunger Coordinator. “We always have sponsor booths, kids’ activities, crafts and more to engage children in the Halloween spirit.” New this year is team fundraising prior to the race via the registration website www.scareawayhungerrun.org.

Last year, Neighborhood House’s Scare Away Hunger 5k had close to 450 participants. The funds raised at this event support assistance programs such as transportation, counseling, the food pantry, financial help, educational classes and more for struggling families in the Rochester and Auburn Hills community. “Our hope is to increase participation again this year to support the assistance programs that serve over 3,000 households each year,” Anglim said. “Coming out and running in the race is supporting someone who might have just lost their job and has to worry about putting food on the table.”

The Scare Away Hunger event will have a large raffle, prizes for each age bracket, along with local entertainment. “Our sponsors make this event possible. Our Platinum level sponsor Eagle Ottawa has sponsored the event for five years, and our Gold Level Sponsor, Renaissance Capital Alliance has sponsored the event for seven years!” said Natalie Reilly-Finch, Fund Development Manager at Neighborhood House. “This is our largest fundraiser of the year, and with 91% of our expenses going directly to those in need, businesses and individuals know they can trust the impact of their donation.”
