Volunteer Testimonials

“About 10 years ago, I started helping with the annual holiday program for kids in our area. I learned about Neighborhood House through the Rochester Community Schools PTA Council. For almost 7 years, I've volunteered weekly in the main office. I enjoy being able to help clients find the necessary resources to receive help in our office and get back on their feet. It is a wonderful feeling when you know you have been able to help someone! It's also been great getting to know some of the other volunteers, whom I now consider good friends.”

I have volunteered at the Clothes Closet for 2 1/2 years and have loved every minute! I greet people bringing in donations. Then we sort through the donations and prepare the donations to go out onto the floor. Our clients are just the sweetest people and so appreciative of our help and assistance. I feel so blessed to be able to help our clients find clothing to wear to a job interview. Several have come back in to tell me that after helping them that they were hired and working. It feels great to help others in their times of need and they are so thankful that Neighborhood House helped and assisted them to become established. I truly recommend volunteering for Neighborhood House because the hours and days are very flexible. It really warms my heart that I am able to give back to my community and help others in need. In addition, it is fun and rewarding being with our clients, shoppers and other volunteers.”

“I began volunteering 3 years ago doing food intake at the office and also 1 day a week at the Clothes Closet. It is very gratifying to help clients by qualifying them for assistance for food and clothing at the office. The clothes closet is a quick 3 hours of sorting and hanging clothes with other volunteers. It's a fun thing to do along with a friend too. The most rewarding part of being involved is getting to know the clients and their families. They are so very appreciative of Neighborhood House’s services.”

“I have been volunteering with Neighborhood House once a week for two years now. I arrange food intake. I have met such great people from my community who volunteer here. Being able to work directly with the clients and see how much the Neighborhood House is needed and appreciated is such a blessing. It truly feels like neighbors helping neighbors.”
