Intakes for food assistance are conducted Monday thru Thursday from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm. You must bring all current income statements to your intake and fill out an intake form each time you come in for food. All forms are available on our website if you would like to fill them out prior to your arrival. Check out the food assistance page to ensure you have all required documentation with you. Eligible clients can visit the food pantry six time a year.
You must call our office at 248 651-5836 to schedule an appointment. Appointments are available Monday through Friday from 9am to 2pm. We provide assistance with past due rent/mortgage payments, past due utility payments, and car repairs. Please see the financial assistance tab under what we do and make sure you have all required documentation for your appointment.
Eligible clients can sign up to use the Clothes Closet at our main office during our daily intake hours from 11:30 to 2:30. Once registered as an eligible client you can visit the clothes closet once a month for one year before recertification is required.
The Clothes Closet is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday from 10 am to 4 pm; Wednesday 10am to 7pm (April 1 to November 20th) 10am to 4pm (November 20th to March 31) and Friday and Saturday 10 am to 2pm. Please plan to arrive at least 30 minutes prior to closing to allow time to shop.
Transportation assistance is available by calling our office at 248 51-5836 at least 48 hours prior to your scheduled appointment. Riders must not be eligible for service from OPC or other service providers. You can request transportation to a medical appointment, social service visit or our Clothes Closet and Food Pantry. Requests outside of a 15 mile radius from our main offices require Executive Director approval. Drivers cannot not make intermediate stops to shop, pick up prescriptions or meet other needs.
Eligible clients can sign up to see a counselor at our main office during our daily intake hours from 11:30am to 2:30pm Monday through Thursday. Once registered as an eligible client one of of counselors will receive your referral and contact you to schedule an appointment.
Individuals who are under 60 years old and have a utility bill that says SHUTOFF Notice on it or a rent notice that says JUDGEMENT or EVICTION on it must apply for assistance with DHS prior to scheduling a financial appointment at Neighborhood House. A DHS Decision Notice is required for a case to be considered for assistance
Financial appointments scheduled on Monday through Thursday are reviewed by our case study committee each Friday morning. Caseworkers present each case anonymously to the committee. The Case Study committee evaluates each need against the funding resources we have available and allocates funds appropriately. Individuals who have applied for financial assistance are required to call their caseworker on Friday morning after 10am to obtain the case study committee decision.
Neighborhood House can provide you with a referral to the Pontiac Furniture Bank. You must complete an intake with a caseworker during our intake hours Monday through Thursday from 11:30am to 2:30pm. You must live in our service area and bring all required documentation with you to this visit.
You must have a valid drivers license or state ID showing you live in one of these areas to obtain service from Neighborhood House. If you do not live in one of these areas, check our our resource guide on our website or call the United Way hotline by dialing 211 to obtain a referral to an agency in your area.
Our youth group is a great way for high school teens to get involved in activities at Neighborhood House. Check out the youth group page to find our more and to connect with our group.
We have volunteer opportunities where you can get involved volunteering on a weekly basis at our Main Offices, Clothes Closet and Food Pantry. Our Food Pantry is dependent on donations to support its operations. If you would like to do a food drive check our our wishlist under Get Involved on our website and then contact the Food Pantry Director at 248 656-4904 to finalize the details of your food drive. We can provide you with boxes and even pick up your food donations for you. Financial donations are also needed.
Our Clothes Closet is dependent on donations to support its operations. Financial donations are also needed
Our Clothes Closet is dependent on donations to support its operations. We accept clothing donations that are clean and in good shape. We also accept small household goods and appliances. If you have large furniture pieces to donate, please contact the Pontiac Furniture Bank as we do not have space for large items. We do accept small baby items, but due to current laws we cannot accept used car seats.
